The Studio Founder
My Story
Hello, and welcome to Patterned Design.
I’m Nataliya — a professionally trained floral designer and self-taught artist, drawn to colour, pattern, and the natural order found in both landscapes and historic design.
I grew up in the countryside, surrounded by forests, fields, and gardens. From an early age, I became aware of how pattern appears naturally — layered, rhythmic, and purposeful. These early observations continue to shape how I approach design today. Nature works with clarity and intent; my role has always been to study it, interpret it, and translate it into pattern.
My father, an artist, was my first and most enduring influence. Through his books and studio practice, I was introduced to classical Greco-Roman art and architecture, developed a lasting interest in historic textiles, and became deeply influenced by Renaissance colour and composition. Watching him work — whether on murals, illustrations, or calligraphy — taught me that imagination must be supported by discipline, structure, and technical skill.
Learning has remained central to my practice. From formal training at the Covent Garden Academy of Flowers to painting studies at the London Fine Art Studio, alongside advanced digital training in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, my skills have developed through sustained study and application. Refinement is not a phase, but an ongoing commitment.
After moving to London, I was naturally drawn to the world of floristry, interiors, and surface design. Working with some of the UK’s most respected floral artists and event studios — often in exceptional architectural settings, including Royal Households — sharpened my understanding of scale, atmosphere, and how design functions within space. It also confirmed something fundamental: carefully designed surroundings have a lasting emotional impact.
Patterned Design represents the culmination of that journey. The studio is built on observation, craftsmanship, and collaboration. I specialise in bespoke wallpaper and surface pattern design for private homes and hospitality interiors, creating tailored work that responds to architecture, materials, and the way a space is used.
Each project begins with listening. Every interior has its own character and requirements, and my role is to help shape that through pattern, colour, and proportion — with clarity and care.
Environmental responsibility is an important part of how I work. I collaborate with UK-based printing partners who prioritise responsible production methods, including water-based inks and low-VOC processes. Producing in considered quantities allows for greater flexibility, reduced waste, and work that feels intentional rather than generic.
The result is work that is personal, original, and made to endure — designs created to sit comfortably within a space over time.
With warm regards,
Nataliya

“From flower arranging to wallpaper design, what I love most is translating close observation into something tangible. Beauty is everywhere if you take the time to look — in the curve of a stem, the rhythm of leaves, the repetition of ornament. Bringing art and nature together through considered design and skilled execution is what truly satisfies me, and this is what I share through my work.”
